This guide explains upstream field notes and reported tests. We have not reproduced these game integrations. Match the exact project, game builds and verification scope when planning your own crossover.
What is a passthrough mod?
In a live passthrough, two game processes exchange state such as positions, collision or damage events. The host and guest need an explicit agreement about which side owns movement and how events return. A project may combine that state bridge with frame compositing or native geometry transfer to show the guest inside the host.
The diagram uses the documented Minecraft × GTA V example. It is a model of that bridge, not a specification for every crossover. Other projects can choose different control ownership, transport and rendering paths.
One composited scene, with both games still running
“Game mashup” can mean several different routes
These routes can coexist in one project. Describe the rendering path and the gameplay path separately. “A Minecraft model appears” proves a different result from “Minecraft’s actual movement drives the player.” That distinction changes both the build plan and the test you need.
| Route | What runs | What moves between systems |
|---|---|---|
| Live passthrough | Both original games | Player state, collisions, hits and other agreed events |
| Frame compositing | Both original games | Guest images and depth, matched to the host camera |
| Asset conversion | The host game | Models, maps or other files converted before play |
| Engine recreation | A rebuilt engine reading the owner’s game data | Reimplemented behavior within that new runtime |
What Minecraft × GTA V actually connects
The reviewed upstream note records GTA V Legacy build 3889 and Minecraft Java 26.3 with Fabric. Its host plugin sends camera and ground information; guest gameplay events return to GTA. Minecraft exports color and depth so the compositor can place its world behind or in front of GTA geometry, rather than drawing a flat overlay over everything.
Those versions describe a reported example. They are not a promise that another GTA edition, an arbitrary loader combination or a different PC will behave the same way. Read the exact field note and the chosen launcher item together; if their requirements differ, resolve that difference before installing.
Build the bridge before the spectacle
Choose control ownership
Write down who owns movement, the camera and collision. Include what should happen when one game pauses, loads a map or closes.
Pass one observable value
Start with a position value and a frame counter logged on both sides. Compare them while walking before sending a full world or combat system.
Check one wall and one interaction
Use a known scene to check alignment, occlusion and a returning event. Then repeat it in the real host, where focus, menus and camera timing add behavior a synthetic test cannot cover.
Record what the check does not prove
Keep game and loader versions with the logs and recording. Separate “connected,” “rendered” and “interaction passed.” Leave untested features listed explicitly.
Evidence that matters more than a highlight clip
Use a reproducible scene and a current game log together. A log can show that a loader connected without proving the picture is correct; a picture can look right without proving input or damage crosses the bridge. Combining a small observable action with its recorded result gives you a much better basis for the next change.
A starter prompt for your agent
Investigate a passthrough between [host game + exact build] and [guest game + exact build] on [OS]. Before editing, identify the existing field notes, loaders, control owner and rendering route. Propose the smallest bridge test: one position value logged on both sides, one wall for occlusion and one returning event. List what that test cannot prove. Keep saves isolated and stay within the documented offline game mode.Questions before you start
Is every AI game mashup a passthrough?
No. The upstream route guide distinguishes live state exchange, frame compositing, geometry transfer, asset conversion and engine recreation. A project can combine routes, so inspect what actually runs and what data moves.
Do both games need to be installed?
For the live two-game routes described here, both real games run. Other routes have different requirements. Check the exact project and use the required game data from copies you own or are permitted to use.
