Independent guide based on a pinned upstream report reviewed October 7, 2026. The author reports headless tests and a human in-game check; we have not built or played this example ourselves.
The reported version combination
- Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.1 on Windows 11, owned through the Microsoft Store / Xbox Minecraft Launcher.
- NeoForge 21.1.252 with the 1.21.1 ModDevGradle MDK and Parchment mappings 2024.11.17.
- JDK 21; the report identifies Oracle 21.0.11. Match the project’s Java requirements before building.
- Other Minecraft versions, loaders and operating systems need separate verification. This case does not establish Bedrock compatibility.
Choose one change that you can inspect
The example uses NeoForge registries for new blocks and items, with data files for dimension settings, recipes, loot and world generation. A pure datapack was not sufficient for this particular custom tool tier. That design decision describes the case; it does not mean every Minecraft idea needs Java code.
Ask the agent to identify the smallest useful milestone: one registered item visible in a development creative tab, with a placeholder texture. Rename the MDK’s example identifiers and keep the work in a separate project. Record the exact launcher profile and game directory so testing does not silently modify your normal worlds.
Build evidence before adding a dimension
The author first compiled the Java project and later produced the mod jar with Gradle. The first build downloaded and prepared dependencies, so allow it to finish before diagnosing a slow initial run as failure. Keep the full error output if compilation fails.
For the larger example, GameTests checked tool statistics, scanned dimension terrain for stone and ore, and used a mock player to test a round-trip teleport. Those checks ran on the development server over RCON. A headless pass still cannot prove that textures, item models or the sky look correct.
- Check that the jar builds and the correct NeoForge development profile loads it without registration errors.
- Inspect the item’s name, texture and behavior in a fresh test world, then restart and confirm it still loads.
- For teleport work, check solid ground, clear space at both feet and head, and a safe return path. Save the logs and the observed result.
Troubleshooting from the upstream case
The dedicated GameTest server did not load the datapack dimension in this case. The author instead ran the same tests on the normal development server. If your test says a dimension is missing, distinguish a test-server setup problem from a broken dimension definition.
Minecraft 1.21 data-folder names in the note are singular, including recipe, loot_table and tags/item. A misplaced resource can appear to compile while its recipe or loot never loads. The author also found that a teleport could land inside terrain despite a weak ground check; loading the target chunk and checking headroom exposed that bug.
Keep the GTA mashup separate
The Minecraft-in-GTA demonstration uses Minecraft Java 26.3, Fabric and JDK 25. It is a separate project with a different purpose and dependency set. Do not install that example into this NeoForge 1.21.1 workspace. Use the project planner to record one version combination and mark every unreported combination as pending verification.
A starter prompt for your agent
Help me prepare a Minecraft Java 1.21.1 project using NeoForge 21.1.252 and JDK 21. First confirm my launcher profile and separate test game directory. Propose one registered item with a placeholder texture as the first milestone. List files to change, build and in-game checks, and a rollback step. Treat other versions as unverified. Do not change my existing worlds or add a dimension until the first item passes review.
